The State of the Union

Are there any Americans out there???

I just errased a long blog that I thought might have been too straight forward to most who know me so I am just going to write a small paragraph about an incident that happened a couple weeks ago.

As some of you might know, I work for a large company that employs over 80K people world wide. The company is in good shape and a couple of my co-workers went out to look for new candidates at a local university. What was interesting about their experience was that out of 80 student applicants only 3 were elegible to work in the US. Yes, that's right, 3. Guess how many out of those 3 were US citizens? 1

If you are reading this and you don't believe there are some serious problems with the US, I seriously suggest you reconsider your assumptions.

I am a recruiter, I know exactly what you mean. The industry I am dealing with, semiconductor, contains group of highly-educated people. More than half of my candidates are non-americans. Most of those non-american candidates received their advanced degrees, MS or Phd, here in US. Education is a big business in US, International education is a BIG market, in 2005, foreign students generated about $13.5Billion into the US economy. In a sense, if this is a problem, well, I would call it a happy problem.:-)

Oh, by the way, I was a foreign student not very long time ago. :-)

Ok, enjoyed your post, keep up the good work!
